“Ordinary” wood is not suitable for saunas due to the extreme temperatures and humidity. Sauna wood must be heat-resistant, not secrete resin, and have a smooth, splinter-free finish. In addition, scent plays an important role: certain types of wood emit a pleasant, natural fragrance that contributes to the sauna experience.
Proper maintenance such as cleaning and ventilation significantly extends the lifespan of the sauna wood. Regular cleaning with a mild cleaning agent and good ventilation after use helps prevent mold formation. Treating wooden benches with suitable materials can also contribute to a longer lifespan.
