Freshly sawn European Oak structural timber
The versatility of oak structural timber is immense. Historically, timber frame structures demonstrate how resilient this building material is. It is strong, durable, and can be used untreated.
Sustainable felling is carried out in the winter, the time when the tree is inactive and sap flow is minimal. Our oak structural beams are imported from France. The logs are sawn 'fresh' to the desired dimensions and are supplied with a 100% PEFC® certificate.
A frequently asked question we receive regarding freshly sawn structural timber is whether it will warp after use. The answer is yes, even for 'air-dried' beams! Oak shrinks in thickness and width by approximately 5-7%. In length, the difference is negligible. Due to the shrinkage, the joints are tightened and the structure becomes stiffer. During drying, surface cracks develop that give the oak beams their characteristic traditional appearance.
We supply various cross-sections with different lengths from stock. Additionally, we can cut any specification to size for you. The beams are sawn according to the European standard EN-975-1 and are supplied as a mix under Q-PA & Q-P1 quality. Perfect for carports, windmill construction, canopies, timber frame structures, or renovating an existing beam structure, among other applications.
We recommend having the wood planed by our machine shop (maximum 290 x 290 mm).
The natural durability of oak is partly due to its high tannin content. Therefore, use only stainless steel screws or opt for the traditional mortise and tenon joint.
