The wood species of the keruing group vary in color from grey-brown, light reddish-brown, dark reddish-brown to brown. The sapwood of dry wood is clearly distinguishable from the heartwood. It is grayish-white to grey-brown in color and measures 30-120 mm in width. A freshly cut or sawn surface has a typical, resinous to spicy scent. The gum exuding from the end grain can cause problems during processing.
Beams, studs, and timber for heavy construction works such as bridges, jetties, harbour works, wagon and industrial floors, parquet and strip flooring, door sills, pallets, ship hatches, and grandstand construction. Keruing logs with a low density are peeled for the manufacture of plywood.
